My Sweet Son,
Life has brought challenges lately, and you’ve been knocked down a time or two.
At the tender age of 12, you’re learning that life isn’t always easy. That sometimes things can happen that throw you off course. Upsetting, confusing, frustrating…even heartbreaking things.
And, it’s during these times, that I want to repeat these two words to you: You matter.
I want you to remember this simple, powerful phrase the next time you face a setback, hardship, or a moment when you’re feeling ‘less than’.
You matter.
You matter as my dear son.
You matter as a beloved grandson, cousin, friend, student, and teammate.
You matter when you lose.
You matter when you win.
You matter when you learn.
You matter when you try.
You matter when you’re happy.
You matter when you’re sad.
You matter in the ups and downs, and everything in between.
You matter when you fall.
You matter when you get back up.
In all components of this messy, precious, and beautiful life, you matter.
There’s only one you and the world wouldn’t be the same without you in it.
So, keep showing up, keep trying, keep being loving and kind, keep being the one and only you.
Because YOU matter.
