The vast sea of grief roars in without warning and ruthlessly consumes you.
You try to resist, you try to fight, but the turbulent waves have gained momentum, and you finally succumb to their power.
Without a moment to catch your breath, you are yanked below the surface until you are submerged in complete darkness.
The sea has wielded its control over you, leaving you vulnerable, weak, and breathless.
In the overwhelming stillness, your eyes slowly adjust to the dark that surrounds you. Sorrow settles in, and although it is uncomfortable, you allow yourself to sit with it for a moment.
As your breathing steadies and your heart slows, you gradually make your way back to the sea’s surface. The once-turbulent water has now turned calm, serene.
To your surprise, you notice a glimmer of hope in the distance: a raft. A lifeline to guide you back to solid ground. To safety.
As you move toward the raft, you remember: You’ve been here before.
You’ve experienced this deep pain and longing. You’ve experienced this all-consuming heartache.
In this moment, you are reminded that the ebbs and flows of grief are ever present. Always ready to pull you in and carry you along, without your consent and without warning.
As you’ve learned along the way, sometimes the waves will take you down completely. And sometimes you will manage to stay afloat.
Yet, no matter how violent the waves, no matter how vast the sea, you will find your way back to the surface and toward the light again.
The hope and strength that lie deep within you will guide you back to stable ground. And, just like before, you will be reminded that you are stronger than the raging waters. And, just like before, with courage, clarity, and resilience, you will rise again.
